After my whirlwind trip to Denmark, I decided to spend my Sunday not unpacking, as would have been prudent, but rather erasing my MacBook Pro's brains and re-loading it with the RTM of Vista and Office 2007.
Everything went very smoothly. I paved the box, as I don't believe in OS upgrades. Vista RTM and Office 2007 RTM installed and everything has been working great for the last 24 hours. I got Visual Studio installed, and despite the warnings, everything is working fine for me so far.
The experience on the box is much smoother than even RC2, which was very good already. This time, instead of using the Apple keyboard drivers, I decided to try out the 1.0 Alpha of InputRemapper, which supports auto-dimming the display and the keyboard backlight (score!). The machine's score stayed steady at 4.8. As with RC2, the two pervasive issues are still with me: 1. the sound card doesn't have a functioning driver, which causes me to need to revert back to an XP driver (and lose all the cool audio tools); 2. the system doesn't go idle properly. I'd love to know better solutions for both problems.
Here's the partial list of software I've installed on the box since yesterday. All seems to be working well.
